With The WickAs designed

Start where they are, in their own words.

When someone you work with uses The Wick, Lamplighter is also for the week between sessions. They bring you what they’ve been working through, with every mark showing where it came from.

A lantern

What they chose to bring you.

A lantern is what someone sends you from The Wick: the parts they choose, sealed for you. It’s the one thing in Lamplighter that comes in a box.

Their words, not a paraphrase.

What they said arrives verbatim, with the date they said it.

A guess looks like a guess.

Anything their companion couldn’t back up is marked, so you never mistake an inference for something they told it.

Their limits stay visible.

When they keep something back, you see that they did, not what. The line is drawn where they drew it.

Less catching up.

Read it before you meet, and spend your time together on what they brought.

The marks

Three marks. Same meaning on both sides.

What they send keeps the marks The Wick put on it, so you read it the way they do. A sourced line looks sourced. A guess looks like a guess.

That’s what you decided on 12 August. Your messages from 3 to 19 July are set aside, with your yes, and a summary that cites all 44 is in their place.

Held

Traced to their record: their words, and the date they said them.

Set aside

Out of view with their yes, and named. A summary that cites every message takes its place.

Unsupported

Nothing in their record backs it. It’s marked in the text, never hidden. Read it as a guess.

Between sessionsAs designed

Tend it between sessions, on their terms.

Lanterns go both ways. You can send things in and ask to join, and they decide what reaches you. Everything you add shows in their Wick as yours.

Lanterns any time.

They can send one whenever they choose, marked Urgent, Important, both or neither, with the reason. Urgent ones reach you first, and they’re told you’re not on call.

A weekly lantern.

Give them a template, and The Wick drafts a lantern from their week. It reaches you only when they send it.

When it can’t wait.

If something shouldn’t wait for the weekly lantern, The Wick supports them first, then suggests sending you something now.

Ask to join.

Ask to join them in The Wick. They choose whether to let you in, and what you can see while you’re there.

Send things in.

A note, a practice, a check-in or a lens. Each shows in their Wick as set by you, and they can pause or remove it. You see that it’s off, and why only if they say.

Transcripts, with their yes.

A session can be transcribed if they agree. No audio is kept. You have 24 hours to finish your notes, unless they give you more time, and then only they have it.

What arrives

You get what they send. Nothing else.

Arrives

  • What they chose: the summary, the conversations, or both.
  • Their words verbatim, each with the date they said it.
  • The marks, exactly as they see them.
  • A note of anything they removed. You see that it was removed, not what.
  • A signature that shows it came from them, unchanged.

Stays with them

  • The rest of their record, on their device, under a key they hold.
  • Anything they removed before sending.
  • Anything they didn’t choose to send.
  • What they shared in a joined chat, once you leave.
  • Their transcripts, once your 24 hours are up.
